My Mission:

• Basic Research: to understand microbial diversity as it really occurs in nature as a consequence of ecological and evolutionary processes

• Applied Research: to understand how predictive control of microorganisms depends on their diversity, ecology, and evolution

• Teaching: to change the way students of biology and microbiology think about microorganisms to a more natural view

• Outreach Education: to change the general public's perception that the only good germ is a dead germ
