Nar Ranabhat placed second at the Graduate Student Summit Rendezvous Research Poster Session for his project "Impact of Downy Brome (Bromus tectorum) and Volunteer Wheat on Risk of Winter Wheat Infection by Wheat Streak Mosaic Virus".
Dayane Reis placed second at the International Congress of Entomology Graduate Student Poster Competition in the category, Frontiers in Entomology for her project titled "Assessing the role of sugar nutrition in braconid parasitoids that specialize on the wheat stem sawfly".

Shavonn Whiten won best oral presentation in the session on Infectious Diseases-Parasites and Vectors as part of the Third Biennial Western Regional IDeA Conference (INBRE) in Honolulu.
Fabian Nippgen has been awarded the 2013 Horton (Hydrology) Research Award from the American Geophysical Union.
Adam Sigler was recoginized for his water quality monitoring and watershed stewardship efforts with the 2013 Special Individuals Award form the Montana Wetland Council and the Montana Watershed Corrdination Council.

Krista Ehlert won first place in the student paper oral presentation contest in the Range and Agriculture category at the Western Society of Weed Science 65th annual meeting in Reno, NV, March 12-15.

Tanya Skurski was awarded a Western Society of Weed Science (WSWS) scholarship for her thesis work with Bruce Maxwell and Lisa Rew on “Quantifying community-level impacts of spotted knapweed and downy brome” and for her work with the WSWS board.
Melissa Medley won first place for her poster at the Montana Nutrition Conference.
Noelle Orloff received 2nd place in the student paper contest (oral presentation) at the Society for Range Management 64th Annual Conference. The title of her paper was “The role of relative size and nitrogen availability in competitive interactions be-tween cheatgrass (Bromus tectorum) and bluebunch wheat-grass (Pseudoroegneria spicata).”

Tanya Skurski was awarded 2nd place in the Graduate Student Poster Contest at the annual meeting of the Western Society for Weed Science in February in Albuquerque. The title of her poster was Assessing Plant Community and Environmental Covariates of Non-Indigenous Plant Impacts.
Trista Vick was selected to be one of 1,900 Space Grant Scholars and Fellows nationwide to receive a
NASA Space Grant Fellowship.
Adam Sigler produced the high quality DVD “Taking Care of Your Ground Water: A Homeowner’s
Guide to Well and Septic Systems”.

Jerome Schleier won the MSU foundation Graduate Achievement Award for Outstanding Performance
in a Master’s Program.
Kelsey Jencso received a1st place student poster award from the MT section of the American Water Resources Association.
Carrie Taylor won an award in the Student Competition for Best Presentation at the Billings Symposium.
Kelsey Jencso was invited to give a talk at the American Geophysical Unions annual fall meeting in San Francisco. His presentation was titled "Hillslope hydrologic connectivity controls riparian groundwater turnover: Implications of catchment structure for riparian buffering and stream water sources."

2008 Awards

Shannon Savage was one of 6 students in the U.S. that received a fellowship to participate in the Vespucci Summer Institute in Fiesole, Italy this summer. The funding is through the Buffalo IGERT program in Geographic Information Science.
Tyler Smith was awarded a Montana Water Center Student Research Fellowship in 2008.
Jerome Schleier won first place in the Student Paper Competition at the Annual Meeting of the American Mosquito Control Association held in Reno, Nevada in March. His paper was titled, "Mosquito Management and Risk: Environmental Concentrations of Insecticides and thier Meaning."
Kelsey Jencso was awarded a Student Paper Award for his contributions to the American Geophysical Union annual meeting in San Francisco. His paper was entitled, "Topographic Controls on Hillslope-Riparian Water Table Continuity in a Set of Nested Catchments, Northern Rocky Mountains, Montana."
Tyler Smith was awarded a Student Paper Award for his contributions to the American Geophysical Union annual meeting in San Francisco as well. He wrote, "A Bayesian Uncertainty Framework for Conceptual Snowmelt and Hydrologic Models Applied to the Tenderfoot Creek Experimental Forest."
Markus Dieser was selected to attend a symposium for the Next Generation of Polar Researchers in May of 2008 in Colorado Springs, CO. There were over 100 international applicants and only 36 were chosen.

2007 Awards

Markus Dieser received an award for the best poster presentation at the 30th Congress of the International Association of Theoretical and Applied Limnology (SIL) in Montreal, Canada. His poster was entitled, "Microbial diversity and the role of bacterial pigments as cryo- or UV protectants in Pony Lake, Antarctica."
Diego Riveros was awarded the prestigious AGU Horton Research Award for 2007. This award is granted by the American Geophysical Union Hydrology Section which draws from graduate students worldwide and chooses 2 graduate students annually based on their Ph.D. research. Diego's NSF sponsored research focused on watershed hydrologic-carbon cycle linkages. He is the first MSU student to receive this grant of $10,000.
Kim Goodwin won 1st Place in the Graduate Student Oral Paper Competition at the Society for Range Management annual meeting in Reno, Nevada held February 9-16.

2006 Awards

Markus Dieser received a Sigma Xi Grant in Aid of Research which partially provided support for him to travel to Dave Kirchman's lab at the Universiy of Delaware to receive training in the Micro-FISH technique.
Marjolein Schat, an LRES Ph.D. student, was awarded first place for her student scientific paper presentation in the Ecology and Behavior: Subsection Biological Control session at the 2006 Entomological Society of America meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana.
LRES Ph.D. student Mica Buteler was awarded second place for her student scientific paper presentation in the Crop Protection session at the 2006 Entomological Society of America meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Jill Mikucki, a past LRES doctoral student, was awarded the MSU Foundation Graduate Achievement Award for Outstanding Achievement in a Doctoral Program.
Tim Covino, an advisee of Brian McGlynn, received an Outstanding Student Paper Award for his presentation at the 2005 AGU meeting in San Francisco. His paper was entitled, "Groundwater-Stream Interactions in a Mountain-Valley Transition: Impacts on Catchment Hydrologic Response and Stream Water Chemistry."
